Medical Simulation Technologist

Position Summary:
The Coordinator of the Simulation Center works closely with the students and instructors and is responsible for the operation of the Patient Simulation Center. The Coordinator performs patient simulation program maintenance and repair, develops case scenarios, trains faculty, functions as a resource, and assists with student teaching.
Essential Functions:
Sets up and maintains Simulation Center equipment, including ordering supplies and gas cylinders, and troubleshooting stimulator software and hardware. Repairs malfunctions of the simulator as required and/or directed by the manufacturer; enforces proper usage and operation of equipment by instructors, and provides technical assistance as needed.
Orients participants to the simulator, runs the sessions, and obtains feedback.
Facilitates programming and integration of simulator sessions into the curriculum.
Trains and assists instructors in the use of simulation, including selection of appropriate equipment, development of educational materials, writing simulator instructions for users, and running scenarios for students.
Acts as a resource for staff utilizing simulation equipment.
Performs administrative duties such as recording and categorizing expenses, scheduling, coordinating, and notifying users of lab availability, preparing invoices for equipment, and ordering supplies.
Programs upgraded software and new scenarios into simulator computer, revises old scripts to meet the goals of a particular session of participant’s level of experience, and sets up case scenario directories for each simulator instructor.
Develops and maintains files related to simulations taught during sessions, develops forms for faculty to complete to obtain individualized simulator teaching points and case scenarios, and applies knowledge of physiology and pharmacology in the creation of new simulator scenarios.
Maintains the laboratory in a clean, safe, and operational status.
Communicates in a positive, professional manner with faculty and students.
Maintains professional skills and refines expertise through appropriate educational/developmental activities and professional affiliations.
Acts as liaison between the ECC Simulation Center, the manufacturer of the simulator, and other simulation centers.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Coordinator is expected to:
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Work with computers and computerized equipment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of simulation manikins including maintenance and operation.
- Communicate effectively with students and college staff.
- Arrange appointments, schedules and follow-up without a conflict.
- Demonstrate experience and knowledge of computer software.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the natural sciences and pathophysiology.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Experience in the medical field
- EMT
- Paramedic
- Medical corpsman in the military.
- College level anatomy and physiology
- Nursing Aid
- Computer/film experience
- Simulation Manikin Experience
Salary:
- $30-$34/hour
- 2-4 days per week during term (maximum of 170 days/ academic year)
- Note this position if grant funded through spring 2012.
