CCPS
Enhancements October 2007:
We have been listening to you over the
most recent placement
cycle and thank you for your ongoing support and
suggestions for improvement. In response to your feedback,
we are pleased to inform you that the CCPS Development
team has made some system enhancements that
will make navigation and use of the tool easier.
Highlights
of these changes are:
The
Clinical Placement navigational menu has been broken down
into 3 Easy Steps:
For
Schools:
· Step
1 - Work with Courses and Cohorts
· Step
2 - Work with Cohort Schedules
· Step
3 - Work with Request Placements
Download
Easy Steps for Schools |
For
Clinical Agencies:
· Step
1 - Work with Unit Locations
· Step
2 - Work with Unit Schedules
· Step
3 - Work with Placement Requests
Download
Easy Steps for Hospitals |
Once
a user clicks on the Step she would like to work with,
CCPS will navigate them to a page that will offer all
the options they have for working that step. The options
are presented in the logical order of the process.
This
same page will offer users access to valuable reports to
assist them in tracking their work.
Other
CCPS Enhancements include:
· Reduced
number of links off the main menu
· A
Coordinator Admin Menu to group and manage
all coordinator administrative tasks
· An
improved calendar feature for schools to
use when they "View Unit Availability" -
they can move forward by month as opposed
to week-by week
· The
Reports page has been reorganized and reports
are sorted by Agency Reports and School Reports
(Note: The Agency Acceptance Report has been
renamed to Placement Request Status Report) |
We
hope that these enhancements assist you in working with
CCPS!!
Now
that these "quick hit" enhancements are implemented,
our development team is moving on to a more comprehensive
re-architecture of CCPS which will provide long term
solutions to make CCPS increasingly easier to use.
Please
don't hesitate to contact the CCPS Help Desk

CCPS
Tips
From
the Help Desk
The
Spring 2008 Placement Cycle is over!
School Coordinators:
If
you are still in need of space for Spring/Summer 2008 student
placements and need assistance, please call the Help Desk
at (866) 325-3222 ext. 123. The staff will be happy to
assist you.
Hospital Coordinators: Please take a moment to run the Placement
Request Status report for your facility to ensure
that you don't have any outstanding proposal requests. Please
respond to any open proposals that are for the Spring or
Summer sessions. If you need any assistance, please call
the Help Desk.
Tip: The
most common clinical placement request is for Med/Surg
units and because of this Med/Surg is the clinical area
within CCPS that has the most data. So to increase the
speed of response when requesting a Med/Surg placement
(and to prevent system time outs), it is a good idea
to remember to use the filters to narrow down your search.
Using filters will shorten the time for the system to
process your request so that you will quickly receive
a list of potential matches.
School & Clinical
Coordinators
Getting
timeout errors when requesting placements? Change
your Preferred Partners' setting to one or two hospitals
only. Then request your placement again and your match(es)
should come up in no time.
How
to view unit availability using the calendar: Move
forward by the month, then select the day to
update the unit availability grid next to it.
Getting confused
with too many auto-generated emails in your Inbox?
In
Outlook create a new folder and call it "CCPS auto-generated". Right-click
any of the auto-generated emails you received and
select "Create Rule". Select Folder and navigate to
the folder you just created, click o.k. This will make
all CCPS auto-generated emails go directly into that
folder.
Reports: During
the placement cycle, it is sometimes hard to
stay on top of all the auto-generated emails.
If you would like to bypass the emails, you can
use the reports in CCPS to assist you in keeping
track of the most current status of all of your
placement requests. Clinical Coordinators can
use the Placement Request Status report
for this purpose and School Coordinators will
find the School Proposal report
must useful for this purpose.

BASC
News:
The
1st Annual Clinical Simulation Conference was held
November 2nd 2007 at the Hilton Newark/Fremont
Hotel in Newark, CA. The conference followed
the successful "Magic in Teaching 2" conference
held the day before. Over 350 nurse leaders
attended this first annual conference which disseminated
important information about the status of the work
of the Bay Area Simulation Collaborative (BASC)
and its members. The Gordon and Betty Moore
Foundation provided generous support for the conference.
The California Institute for Nursing & Healthcare
(CINHC) and the BASC developed a well thought
out program that provided new ideas and strategies
to integrate the use of clinical simulation into
nursing program curriculum. Redesigning nursing education
in the state of California for registered nurses
is an important public policy issue. The conference
helped disseminate information about this new teaching
methodology and provided expert information for the
participants to take away.
Through this conference, educators from both schools
and hospitals were able to network and speak directly
with resource individuals to help them get started
on implementing clinical simulation into their programs. The
conference also gave programs a chance to confirm
if what steps they have already taken in implementing
is headed in the right direction.
The
conference planning committee is to be commended
for planning a thoughtful flow of information
that can be used immediately upon returning to
sites throughout California. The program objectives
included:
· understanding how to utilize simulation
as a teaching modality
· examine best practice for simulation
education from expert simulation and academic faculty
· identify steps in the scenario development
and validation process
· network and share ideas with other
simulation educators from academia and service
· understand the issues and concepts
to integrate simulation into the nursing curriculum.
Pam
Jefferies, DNS, RN, FAAN was the keynote speaker
on the topic New Possibilities for Teaching Nurses:
Applying what we know to the evaluation of the
BASC.
Pam was the Principle Investigator on the NLN/Laerdal
study on simulation in nursing.
Michael Seropian, MD, FRCPC and Bonnie Driggers,
RN, MS, MPA followed Pam's presentation with an
overview of simulation trends in healthcare and
concepts in getting started and sustaining our
programs.
Our own BASC members took the podium in the afternoon
to share the regional work that has been occurring. Celeste
Villanueva, CRNA, MS, spoke about Samuel Merritt
School of Nursing's journey in building their new
Simulation Center. Colleen O'Leary-Kelley RN, PhD,
and Lina Gage-Kelly, ANP, MS, spoke about the BASC
scenario development process and encouraged the
group to begin writing scenarios for the BASC members.
The
conference concluded with a panel of Simulation
Center leaders to speak about their specific
centers, the status, the barriers, the successes. The
panel included BASC members: Lou Halamek,
MD, from CAPE/Stanford; Fran Brown RN, MSN, from
the Napa Valley Simulation Center; Aurelie Chinn
RN, MSN from Cabrillo College; Mary Ann Haueser
RN, from Dominican. The panel discussion
was moderated by KT Waxman, MBA, RN, Program
Director for the BASC.
We had great representation from our exhibitors
who all contributed to the congerence: Laerdal
Medical, METI, inc, Gaumard Scientific, PocketNurse,
Advance Magazine and Gannett Publishing.
