The issue of clinical placements has become a particularly hot topic. CINHC has heard that certain schools are experiencing increased difficulty securing clinical sites for their students, and that certain service settings must reduce the number of students they can accommodate. We are eager to identify solutions to alleviate the stress experienced by both schools and clinical sites with the current model.
To help identify sustainable, long-term solutions for offering clinical opportunities to students in the San Francisco Bay Area, a core group of nurse leaders has been brought together for discussion and to form task forces. The following Task Forces are being developed:
Clinical Placement Task Forces:
- Facilitating partnerships with clinics, surgicenters, and non-acute settings
- Strengthening school/clinical site relationships
- Restructuring or eliminating preceptorships
- Increasing use of simulation
- Clinical intensives or modifying timing of clinical placements
- Reviewing school requirements for clinical hours, including community health
Please e-mail Nikki West at nikki@cinhc.org with your desire to participate on one of these Task Forces. IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF A TASK FORCE, PLEASE LOG IN TO ACCESS DOCUMENTS AND DISCUSSION BOARDS.
